AES Wind Energy is dismantling hundreds of windmills in Taylor County to upgrade aging turbines with safer, energy-efficient technology.
County officials had opposed AES's earlier tax abatement proposal, but the company now projects $94 million in local revenue + a $280,000 donation to volunteer fire departments.
🏛️ Government
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller proposed Agriculture Freedom Zones to oversee nearly 400 data centers in the Big Country, including Abilene’s largest facility, to protect rural resources.
He said using small modular reactors + other measures could ease the strain on water and electricity services as the industry grows.
City officials ask residents to remove non‑compliant items from grave plots at Abilene Municipal Cemetery, 1133 Cottonwood, before Jan.
18 — after that, city staff will dispose of any remaining debris during the cleanup from Jan. 12 to Jan. 18.
