- ➤ On Tuesday, Jan. 13, Abilene Fire Station 7's Safe Haven Baby Box was used for the first time when firefighters found a 60-day-old infant in the 400 block of North Pioneer. The baby was healthy, received an initial medical evaluation (following established protocols), and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Abilene High School junior Lainey Marz advanced to state finals at the 5A UIL Congress State Championship (at the Texas State Capitol) where she placed 13th overall. She is the first finalist in six years and credits her coach’s advice for her success in debate. KTXS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dry conditions and gusty winds have increased wildfire risk in Abilene and West Texas, with experts warning that even a small spark can quickly ignite a fire. The Texas A&M Forest Service advises safe grilling practices (such as using a bare soil ring) and proper vehicle care to reduce accidental sparks. KTXS
