- ➤ The American Red Cross volunteers in Big Country are on standby this week as freezing rain, snow and below-freezing temperatures will affect travel and infrastructure Jan. 23–25. They have prepositioned canteen and shelter supplies and are coordinating with local agencies to help residents stay safe. KTXS
- ➤ A local couple with Joy Over One Ministries has launched a donation drive amid freezing weather to collect clothing for homeless residents. The drive is at 1702 Butternut, and community members are invited to donate or pick up free items. KTXS
- ➤ One local family is preparing for a long-distance bike ride to raise awareness about infant loss and fund maternal-fetal care; the ride transforms grief into community strength — a mission to support families facing such losses. KTXS
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Michael Bob Starr, a former Dyess Air Force Base commander, introduced Paradox Labs at Abilene Country Club last week to launch a venture studio that will build companies focused on advanced energy innovation. The studio, supported by Nine-Point-Eight Collective (its national partner), aims to harness local talent and resources. KACU

- ➤ Abilene ISD is asking community members to donate winter coats and other warm clothing to help students as a wintery mix is expected over the next few days. Donations can be dropped off at 5340 Hartford Street. KTXS

- ➤ Gov. Abbott declared a state of emergency across Texas as a winter storm is expected Friday, with TxDOT crews pre-treating major highways like I-20 in Abilene (roads will be salt-treated to reduce ice risks). Drivers are advised to drive cautiously and prepare an emergency kit. KTXS
