  • Big Brothers Big Sisters has launched its Light the Way campaign to match over 140 children with adult mentors during National Mentoring Month in Abilene. The program is funded by donations + a corporate sponsor to ensure each match gets monthly support.  KTXS
  • Community volunteers from the Dyess We Care Team will begin a major renovation project at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars facility on Saturday in Abilene (focusing on interior updates to ensure safety for service members) and will continue work through March.  KTXS
  • Meals on Wheels volunteers braved icy roads today to deliver hot meals and extra winter supplies to Abilene residents in need; director Betty Bradley said extra meals were sent before the storm to ensure no one is left without support, and volunteers are urged to be cautious on slippery side streets.  KTXS
  • On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Abilene residents enjoyed one last play in the snow before warm weather melted it away; children built snowmen & neighbors made the most of outdoor fun at local parks and streets.  Abilene Reporter News

  • Arrow Ford Motors honored Wylie High School teacher Alexis Hughes as this week’s Teacher Tribute for her 24 years of service, and student Beltrine John said she makes every student feel welcome (like a school mom).  KTXS
  • After three snow days, Wylie ISD students returned on Thursday as staff cleared sidewalks and parking lots and buses gradually resumed service. Superintendent Joey Light said the district built extra time into its calendar to safely handle weather disruptions.  KTXS
