  • Abilene PD has launched a volunteer program to help with non-dangerous tasks like filing reports and taking fingerprints, freeing officers to handle more urgent calls - volunteers must complete 100 training hours and be at least 21 to join.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wylie ISD was chosen as one of 32 districts to join an 18-month fellowship through Raise Your Hand Texas that trains teams in state education policy with in-person sessions, virtual training and self-paced learning, while Abilene ISD was also selected to participate.  KTXS
  • On Tuesday, students, educators, and families gathered at Abilene Christian University for the 22nd Autism Extravaganza to share evidence based strategies for supporting children on the autism spectrum + the event's speakers focused on using strengths to build self-esteem and promote self-advocacy.  KTXS
