- ➤ Abilene’s Salvation Army thrift store across from its shelter accepts donated items to help residents afford clothing and furnishings while offering vouchers for job interviews and seasonal needs. The donations support vital services like feeding and shelter—over 2,500 locals received help last year through these efforts. KTXS
- ➤ Abilene Crime Stoppers will host a golf tournament next month at Shady Oaks Golf Club in Baird where teams of four will compete for cash prizes including $800 for first, $600 for second and $400 for third — they also have a chance for a $10,000 hole in one bonus. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Abilene Parks and Recreation Board approved an updated camping policy for review by the City Council; the policy allows camping for up to 72 hours for groups of up to eight with fees of $22 per 24 hours and noise restrictions enforced between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The board also discussed ongoing fundraising and showed support for the Lake Kirby Arboretum project. - ➤ A proposed Texas House Bill HB 4938 would dismantle the Parks and Wildlife Department and Commission—if passed, their responsibilities would shift to the General Land Office, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Public Safety. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said it is proud of running 89 state parks that welcome over 9 million visitors each year. KTXS
