- ➤ Operation: Stockshow—a nonprofit offering agricultural opportunities to special needs students—will host a Turkey Showdown from March 28 at 7:00 a.m. to March 29 at 8:50 p.m., with contests offering prizes such as a Benelli Super Black Eagle and Traeger Smoker in the Big Country. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cadets from the Civil Air Patrol’s Abilene Composite Squadron launched several model rockets as part of the American Rocketry Challenge on Mar. 21 at a local field, using careful engineering and planning to reach a 750-foot target and gain hands-on STEM experience (thanks to a grant from First Financial Bank). - ➤ Dr. Jason Morris, dean of the Honors College at ACU, returned from a two-week Fulbright-funded trip to Taiwan and met with more than 15 universities to explore study abroad options plus form new global partnerships for students. KTXS
- ➤ One parent at Merkel Elementary questioned the school's accessibility while dropping off her handicapped child, saying the long walk from the parking lot is difficult. District officials maintain that the campus is above ADA standards but note that a front ramp poses traffic safety issues & parking misuse is monitored. KTXS
