- ➤ The Abilene Chamber of Commerce will host its 2025 Business Expo at the Abilene Convention Center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and Business After Hours will follow from 4:30 to 6:30 with live music, food, and a live auction — tickets cost $5 online or $10 at the event while free for Chamber members. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Abilene Police are investigating the death of a 58-year-old man found near train tracks by the Grape and Butternut underpass late Monday night—his identity is confirmed but his family has not yet been notified and the cause of death remains undetermined. KTXS
- ➤ Richard Wood, a contractor accused of scamming Abilene residents out of thousands for unfinished repair jobs, was extradited from Oregon and booked into Taylor County Jail on Saturday on felony theft, exploitation of the elderly, and harassment charges. KTXS
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Abilene Preservation League held its annual Living History Cemetery Tour at the municipal cemetery Saturday as nine actors portrayed key figures from the city's past — including architect David Castle and Col. Morgan Jones — whose lives helped shape Abilene's history. Abilene Reporter News
- ➤ Country music singer-songwriter Aaron Watson will perform at the Lime Rock Amphitheater on April 19 at 7 p.m.—the show 'Aaron Watson Family and Friends' will feature guest appearances by Jarrod Morris and Cameron Winkle, and tickets will cost $25 online and $30 at the door. KTXS

- ➤ Due to high egg prices at grocery stores, many local residents are buying chickens to save money. Jimmy Wylie of Jackson Bros Feed and Seed 2 said his shop sold out of chickens in two days—he warned that the cost of care and equipment may soon equal or exceed the price of store eggs. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Abilene ISD named Janaye Wideman as the new principal of Bowie Elementary School on Monday after she served as interim since January—she joined the district as a fourth grade teacher in 2007 and has held roles including assistant principal and director of assessment and accountability. Wideman, who earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas and holds additional certificates, said she was honored to lead the school. Abilene Reporter News
