  • The Salvation Army will host its annual Love Beyond luncheon on May 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mesquite St. event center in Abilene—tickets and sponsorships will support its community work.  KTXS
  • Cooper's BBQ launched its Tix 4 Trash promotion to support community clean-up efforts and offer live music for local guests—an initiative that brings neighbors together.  FOX West Texas
  • Vietnam War veterans and their families gathered at Goodfellow AFB to remember acts of service and honor the sacrifices made during the conflict.  FOX West Texas
  • Local animal control officials in Tye said they have seen an increase in abandoned pets during the summer months and warned that owners who abandon pets risk a $1000 fine + up to one year in jail. Shelters are stretched by low capacity and officials urge pet owners to seek help instead of dumping them.  KTXS

  • Business Expo returned to the Convention Center on March 26, where booths + giveaways were set up and attendees joined networking events. Local businesses participated and built connections + future plans during the event.  Abilene Reporter News

CULTURE NEWS

  • ACU’s longstanding Sing Song tradition began last night at Moody Coliseum and will continue today at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. with 15 acts competing in Men’s, Women’s and Class divisions—drawing traffic and tourism dollars to Abilene.  KACU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three kindergarten teachers at TLCA-Abilene Elementary were fired on Friday after an investigation found they allegedly used a disciplinary method in which a student was made to walk in a circle while classmates chanted a word (shameful) and the incident was reported to Child Protective Services.  KTXS
