- ➤ Local realtor Maegan Brest started Abilene’s Ballgown Collection to provide free dresses for prom & weddings after seeing one girl unable to afford hers. She now offers about 500 dresses, with 170 donated this year, and invites anyone in need to call or text to make an appointment. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 200,000 families have applied for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program to receive about $10,000 per student for private or specialized schooling. The online applications close today at 11:59 p.m. and officials say the program will help make tailored learning more affordable. KTXS
- ➤ Abilene Christian University honored Amy Grant with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree Saturday night during its annual President’s Circle Dinner — she also performed to recognize her impact on contemporary Christian music and inspire future artists. KTXS
- ➤ A new nonprofit, Hope Weavers+ is helping local educators and their families cover costs for hotels, groceries, and counseling during a medical or loss crisis. Former teacher David Chavez founded the organization to support those who do not qualify for traditional aid. KTXS
