ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 26-year-old Abilene woman — Madison Eleni Shults — died in a fiery car crash on Highway 36 in Callahan County Sunday night when her car left the road, hit a fence, trees and rocks, and caught fire. KTXS
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices statewide now average $2.74 per gallon, about 40 cents less than this time last year, easing bills for local drivers. Industry experts say lower demand and reduced production drove the drop — local residents report having extra cash for savings and expenses. KTXS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas lawmakers have introduced bills aimed at changing how elections are run by targeting the countywide polling program—used by most voters since 2006—as well as electronic poll books and ballot marking systems. Taylor County Judge Phil Crowley said the current system is secure and that the Elections Office will follow any new rules from Austin. KTXS
- ➤ The Taylor County Sheriff's Office is hosting a hamburger fundraiser on April 9 at 11 a.m. in its parking lot at 450 Pecan Street in Abilene to help cover Deputy Bobby Votaw's medical expenses — each $10 plate includes a hamburger, chips and a drink. KTXS

- ➤ Abilene ISD announced on Monday that former Cedar Park coach Kami Williams has been named head coach of the Abilene High girls basketball team. Williams, who helped her previous team reach UIL Class 5A state championship tournaments and led them to a state semifinal in 2024 + a regional finalist finish in 2025, said she is eager to build strong relationships with the athletes and community.
