- ➤ The city's splash pads will reopen April 18 at six parks, including Grover Nelson Park, Redbud Park, Arthur Sears Park, Stevenson Park, Scarborough Park and Coach James Valentine Park. The facilities will operate daily from dawn to dusk and use recirculated water to conserve resources. KTXS
- ➤ The city invites residents to clean up plots at Abilene Municipal Cemetery from April 13 to 17. After April 17, city staff will remove noncompliant items per cemetery policy (call 325-437-4625 for details). KTXS
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Abilene, Bryan and Tyler have been announced as winners in a statewide mural competition for America’s 250th anniversary, with each city set to create a new public artwork reflecting its unique history + culture; the murals are expected to be completed ahead of Independence Day. KTXS

- ➤ Expo Center of Taylor County has reserved a block of hotel rooms for visitors coming for the Western Heritage Classic running May 7 through May 10 + local university commencements amid rising housing demand from an AI facility. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local officials reported that more than 100,000 gallons of wastewater spilled into Buck Creek near Abilene, and environmental teams are checking water quality — measures to fix the problem are under review. FOX West Texas
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 4, city crews began cleanup and disinfection after a sewer transmission line rupture spilled over 100,000 gallons of wastewater into Buck Creek near East Lake Road and Neas Road. Officials advised residents to avoid contact and boil water from private wells until testing was complete. KTXS

- ➤ The annual Kirk Goodwin Run will be held mid-morning May 2 at Lunsford Trail to help fund treatment for Jasmine McCabe-Gossett, who faces autoimmune conditions — registration costs $15 and is open until April 20. KTXS
