  • On Friday morning, 27 dogs left Abilene with Dog is my CoPilot for a flight to Montana where foster families are set to care for them—this move eases shelter crowding and gives the dogs a better chance to settle into a home.  KTXS
  • Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 is offering extra monthly opportunities for veterans to connect and get help with filing VA claims at its office on 2555 Grape St in Abilene, where coffee and donuts are served. The group holds a regular noon meeting today, hosts Visits with Vets on the second and fourth Tuesday from 9-11 a.m., and offers in-person VA assistance on the first and third Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — DAV membership is not required.  Abilene Reporter News
  • Celebrity chef Jet Tila visited Abilene Christian University on Friday afternoon to engage with fans and address students at the Chapel—he also shared recipes and signed books.  FOX West Texas

  • The Abilene Police Department is celebrating National Pet Day by sharing photos of its K-9s and mounted patrol — showing that the department treats these working animals like family. The images highlight how the officers and their pets share close bonds.  KTXS
  • Dyess Air Force Base is testing its Mobile Aircraft Arresting System ahead of next weekend’s Wings Over West Texas Airshow—this system gives tail-hook-equipped fighter jets a safety net if brakes fail as crews prepare for the event headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.  KTXS
