- ➤ Beyond Trafficking, Walmart, and Sam's Club are hosting the HOPE Beyond the Darkness donation drive today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sam's Club on 5550 S. Clack St.—the drive-through event seeks donations such as inspirational books, non-perishable food, personal hygiene supplies, makeup, and school supplies to support trafficking survivors on their journey to freedom—. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Abilene Fire Department responded at 6:45 p.m. Sunday to a house fire in the 6600 block of Autumn Sage where firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and are investigating the cause with damages estimated at $75,000. KTXS
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The Better Business Bureau warned Abilene residents that scammers using AI and fake emails are on the rise so the bureau advises checking business names, using unique passwords, and not clicking suspicious links. The bureau also stressed guarding personal information to help prevent identity theft during severe weather season when scammers may target those in crisis. KTXS

- ➤ Abilene High School student Lainey Marz qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association in extemporaneous speaking and congressional debate - she must choose one event to compete in. She said debate has taught her valuable real world skills and will compete in extemporaneous speaking in Iowa this summer. KTXS

- ➤ April is national 9-1-1 education month to remind residents to call only for true emergencies—local agencies say misuse can delay help for fires, car crashes, or assaults. Congress recognized the campaign in 2008, and Abilene experts urge proper use of emergency lines to ensure fast aid for critical cases. KTXS
- ➤ Miguel Espinoza, chairman of the All Kind Animal Initiative and a public accountant, is challenging incumbent Kyle McAllister for the Place 5 city council seat as Abilene voters prepare to cast ballots on May 3—McAllister is seeking his fifth term while Espinoza offers new ideas. KACU
- ➤ In the contest for Abilene City Council Place 5, incumbent Kyle McAlister faces challenger Cynthia Alvidrez — a longtime Abilene resident and community advocate. Voters will cast ballots on May 3 in the municipal elections. KACU
