CRIME NEWS

  • Abilene police said a man was hit and killed by a train at South First and Shelton St. just after 1 p.m. Tuesday while he was walking with headphones on—police are investigating the fatal accident.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music singer Braxton Keith, a Midland native, will perform at Potosi Live on June 20 and will tour West Texas this spring and summer. Tickets for his show go on sale Friday and are expected to sell quickly.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Abilene Christian University’s Undergraduate Research, Creativity and Innovation Festival is showcasing projects by students from ACU, Hardin Simmons, Texas Tech and other nearby schools—studies range from gene sequencing linked to Alzheimer’s to early photography techniques and rock art analysis. Awards and grant opportunities are available to recognize top scholars and encourage further research.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kyle McAlister, a 30-year Abilene resident and Abilene Christian University graduate who works as a sales account executive for Lamar Advertising, is running for his fifth term on the City Council Place Five seat.  KACU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hendrick Regional Blood Center is facing a critical shortage of O-negative and O-positive blood and is hosting a drive at the Tom Roberts Conference Center from Tuesday through Thursday; donors can enter through the hospital’s main entrance and ride the elevator to the second floor during drive hours from 7 a.m.—5 p.m.  KTXS
  • Jazz Kade Jones, a 17-year-old teen who died on April 14th at Hendrick Medical Center, had signed up as an organ donor and his donation saved seven lives—his mother said she finds comfort knowing his wish helped others while a scholarship in his name honors his legacy.  KTXS
