Big Country Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Abilene is asking for volunteers to help care for increased wildlife during baby season.

The center noted that animal intakes rose from 180 to 220 and said extra hands are needed for feeding, cleaning, and daily care (volunteer roles are available now).

Abilene Zoo will host the free Zoolute event presented by H-E-B Helping Here on Saturday, May 16 to honor military families during Memorial Day weekend.

The event offers free admission, lunch (11:30 a.m.), keeper chats, yard games, animal encounters and a chance to purchase bricks for the upcoming Honor Walk.

This spring, local pet owners can enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, picnics, and pet-friendly events to bond with their animals while exploring nearby trails and parks (remember to pack water, a leash, and treats).
