  • At the Taylor County Coliseum, the annual Abilene Kennel Club Dog Show ran for three days—over 700 dogs from more than 130 American Kennel Club breeds competed.  Abilene Reporter News
  • Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park is asking Abilene volunteers to place flags on veteran graves to honor them for Memorial Day. Volunteers should meet today morning at 8:30 a.m. at the park’s front entrance—covering 40 acres of graves in the cemetery.  KTXS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gloria's Grill, a local burger spot that closed in March 2024 when the owners retired, will reopen on June 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. — the restaurant remains at 228 Chestnut St. for its loyal customers.  KTXS

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 18, the City of Abilene was hit by a cyber attack that took several departments offline when a Russian group called Qilin reportedly stole 477 gigabytes of data and demanded ransom by May 27; officials said they will not pay and are working with cybersecurity experts to restore services + complete their investigation.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Abilene Community Theatre is celebrating 70 years with a performance of a popular 1970s show called Not Now, Darling. The event starts today with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.—director Gary Varner said the theatre plans to work with the city to build community ties and grow for many more years.  KTXS
  • Grupo Siggno will rock Potosi Live on May 30th at 7 p.m.—part of their 25th Anniversary tour in Abilene. The Tejano band previously entertained fans at the Taylor County Expo Center in September—promising a fun event for all ages.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TSTC Abilene is expanding with a nearly finished 50,000-square-foot campus building funded through the Capital Construction Assistance Projects under Senate Bill 52 — the project costing about $30.4 million — to meet growing demand for trade workers by housing Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrical Line Worker and Management Technology, HVAC Technology and Plumbing and Pipefitting Technology programs.  KTXS
