- ➤ Volunteers gathered at Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park to honor fallen veterans by placing flags on headstones for Memorial Day—Eric Rasmussen from the Dyess Fire Department said the event recognizes the sacrifices of military members and their families. KTXS
- ➤ Local splash pads are opening for the summer season in several communities, including Abilene—which now has parks like Grover Nelson, Redbud, Arthur Sears, Stevenson, Scarborough and Coach James Valentine open from dusk until dawn. Brownwood, Cisco, Clyde and Sweetwater also offer splash pads with hours set by each city. KTXS

- ➤ Dr. Duke Appiah, a professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, received a national award at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in Chicago for his important work studying cancer differences — his research helps women and doctors better understand risks and treatment options. - ➤ Today, Texas game warden James Cummings advised boaters to only use approved life jackets, fire extinguishers, and proper registration as lakes fill up over Memorial Day weekend—recent rains have made hidden debris and higher water levels a risk. He also warned that intoxicated boating is as unsafe as driving while impaired. KTXS
- ➤ After a three-year delay, Abilene State Park began renovating its historic pool — contractors removed loose concrete from the coping and gutters as shown in a Facebook post by Park Assistant Superintendent Candyce Johnson. The park will replace the coping, install new tile, and repair the pump room and pool deck — the pool is expected to reopen next summer while the rest of the park remains open for outdoor activities.
