  • Today, the Abilene Black Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Juneteenth celebration and free health and business expo at the Abilene Convention Center, beginning with an 8 a.m. breakfast — followed by a chamber presentation and expo at 10 a.m. The event will provide local residents with access to health and business services.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Abilene is hosting the annual Children’s Art and Literacy Festival today with a new chalk mural of Plum the Peacock unveiled downtown to honor the city’s storybook legacy. Local families and children enjoy art displays as the festival runs until June 15th (artist Natalie Heitz began work at 8:00 a.m.).  KTXS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Buffalo Gap worry that Oncor Electric’s new transmission line project will cross historic sites and sensitive terrains, risking local farms and natural habitats — landowners note potential impacts on archaeological sites and endangered species. The project, scheduled to finish in 2028, remains in early planning with a route decision expected within a year — officials say biologists will review environmental concerns.  KTXS
