ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 20-year-old Abilene man died in a motorcycle crash Monday night when he struck a truck on Treadaway Blvd (police said speed and poor lighting contributed) while his 20-year-old female passenger was airlifted with critical injuries. KTXS
- ➤ Emergency crews are on scene after a minor train derailment at South 3 and S Treadaway Blvd — officials report no injuries and plan to re-align the train after 4 p.m. while the road remains closed and traffic is rerouted. KTXS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Abilene Police Department records show drug abuse crimes rose from 703 in 2023 to 866 in 2024, raising concerns over meth use in the Big Country area. KTXS will interview Lieutenant Joshua Davis from the Narcotics unit to detail how the highly addictive synthetic drug affects community safety. KTXS
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Abilene celebrated its 13th annual Children's Art and Literacy Festival on June 18th with new additions to the storybook garden and a full lineup of dramatic readings, book signings, craft activities + a marionette show that brought local families and out-of-town visitors together. The event, started in 2012 by the Cultural Affairs Council, also expanded its sculpture collection to 46 characters to engage children in literature and art. KACU
