- ➤ The CASA program in Big Country is urgently seeking volunteers to support foster children by training advocates for those affected by neglect or abuse — local volunteer Roseann Seelke was named Volunteer of the Quarter for Spring 2025 after three years of impactful service. - ➤ Temperatures have climbed with little rain for over a week, so outdoor burn bans are back—Eastland County is under a ban and Callahan County has also imposed restrictions. KTXS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott vetoed a bill on Sunday that would have banned THC-infused gummies, drinks + vapes, leaving hemp businesses relieved and keeping these products on the market; he has also scheduled a special session on July 21 to revisit Senate Bill 3. KTXS
- ➤ Residents in Abilene received a letter from the city explaining that the Hargesheimer Water Treatment Plant did not update its safety reports for several months in 2024 after new TCEQ guidelines—city officials stressed that the paperwork error did not affect the safety of the water and has now been corrected with additional training planned. The notice reassured residents that all treatment and disinfection systems remain effective. KTXS
