Local seafood chain *The Laughing Crab* will open at the former Ta Molly’s location at 4400 Ridgemont Drive.

It filed for a sales tax permit and applied for an alcohol license after the building was purchased on June 10.

Abilene residents face a 4% rise in grocery prices for Fourth of July cookouts, with a classic meal for 10 now costing $73.82, yet most still plan to celebrate the holiday as usual.

On (Friday, June 27), the Texas Board of Education approved a new required reading list that adds Bible passages to classic literature for public schools—with materials phased in through the 2030-2031 school year.

The board also endorsed updated social studies standards for kindergarten through eighth grade.
