- ➤ After severe flooding over Fourth of July weekend, community members in Abilene collected donations for flood relief as United Way Concho Valley coordinated efforts to identify non-clothing supplies—items first responders needed after clearing roads in affected areas. KTXS
- ➤ Local relief groups are helping Texas flood victims after severe flooding hit parts of the region over Fourth of July weekend. A resident is collecting donations at 5919 Buffalo Gap Road from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today — the Salvation Army team is serving flood victims in San Angelo, F5 Plumbing is not taking calls today as it aids in the effort, and the Jim Ned Volunteer Fire Department will hold drives from 6—9 p.m. today and 8—12 p.m. on Saturday. - ➤ Abilene police investigated a deadly shooting at Maison Blanche Apartments at South 27th and Sayles on Monday, July 7 at about 5:30 p.m.—a black male was killed as they searched for a person of interest while crime tape secured the area. KTXS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Abilene Zoo is nearly ready to open its upgraded Caribbean Cove exhibit to boost animal welfare by keeping animals visible to guests all year—native species including endangered ones will be featured as renovations finish in six weeks. Future plans include a new lion exhibit and additional attractions set to begin in spring, following the approved bond and matched funding. KTXS
