Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 25th of July.
Good morning, Abilene.
The City of Abilene is converting the vacant lot that once housed the Abilene Reporter-News into a Pedestrian Plaza as part of the Cypress Street Improvement Project.
The plaza will include a water feature & two pavilions with electrical infrastructure for events, & city officials expect it to be ready when the overall project finishes by the end of October.
The Abilene City Council met this week to set the next budget and proposed raising property taxes to fund street repairs, new rec center staff, and seven additional police officers.
Officials said the tax rate will change based on house value and may be adjusted before finalizing the budget in two weeks — the goal is to keep the increase as low as possible.
