HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Gary Holland, Medical Director for Abilene Taylor County Public Health District, explained that when someone has a seizure you must stay with them, move them away from danger, and turn them on their side (three S's) while also keeping calm, cushioning them, and calling for help (three C's). He said that most treatment relies on oral medication but new brain procedures and medicines are being tested to improve care.  KTXS
  • After several mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus, the City of Abilene will spray insecticide at 10 p.m. tonight—targeting the 1300 block of North Pioneer Drive, the 2000 block of Zoo Lane, and the 600 block of Walnut Street until August 21. Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors and dress in long sleeves for protection.  KTXS
