COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a year of renovations, the Abilene Zoo has reopened Caribbean Cove today at 8 a.m. with larger exhibits—featuring new animals, upgraded habitats, and ADA-compliant viewing areas—designed to offer a vibrant tropical experience.  KTXS

CRIME NEWS

  • Police reported that a man in a white Star Wars helmet—seen on security footage—robbed a Western Bank on the 2500 block of Buffalo Gap Rd on August 11, while Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for information about his identity.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Clack Middle School employees pushed a Jeep out of mud after it got stuck, as Abilene ISD Superintendent Dr. John Kuhn shared on social media, and their quick action helped resolve the incident—showing the school’s commitment to support.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joshua Ohlemacher announced his run for Texas House District 71 after State Rep. Stan Lambert retired—he manages construction projects across the Big Country and vows to listen to voters and stand for limited government and fiscal responsibility, while Abilene city councilman Blaise Regan also joined the race.  KTXS
  • Abilene Regional Airport is set to have Rescue Truck 2, which has been under repair since February, back in service next week—city fleet services and the fire department worked together to meet strict FAA response standards. The city will review bids for a replacement truck at council in September as the current one, over 20 years old, is planned for eventual retirement.  KTXS
  • Officials announced that the traffic light at South 14 and Clack St. is operational again after a car crash destroyed its control box in July and weeks of supply issues and contractor setbacks—forcing drivers to use four-way stops.  KTXS
  • The Abilene Fire Department said retired Battalion Chief Johnny Kincaid, who served 42+ years, passed away on August 18 and his son and grandson continue to serve in the department.  KTXS
