Abilene's All Kind Animal Initiative has received 221 animals between Sept.
1 and 9 and is asking locals to adopt or foster pets to relieve shelter overcrowding—staff are urging community members to check its website for available animals and help ease the strain. The shelter is reaching out as it struggles with space and exhausted resources.
🚧 Accidents
Tuesday night a fire in Haskell destroyed Rick Phemister's home that housed his hat shop—burning almost everything inside—while his business survived and he called the fire department immediately after smelling strong chemical fumes as he fled the blaze.

On the afternoon before September 11, the Abilene Country Club hosted its annual lunch to honor local heroes.
Sheriff Danny Jimenez received the Melvin Martin First Responder Award — an honor presented by retired Police Chief Melvin Martin to remember the 9/11 tragedy.

A new sports complex is being built in Abilene with ten full-size soccer fields and a First Financial Clubhouse set to house AYSA and other sports organizations—fields will open Sept.
27 and the clubhouse will debut later this fall to boost youth sports and local business.
