CULTURE NEWS

  • Since 1930, the Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene has been a cultural icon. Today, it earns historical landmark status—local leaders say the theatre will remain available for community events while preserving its original Spanish style.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Lynne Murray was inaugurated as McMurry University’s 11th president on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Radford Auditorium with alumni, community leaders, and others in attendance—she said her focus is on creating internship opportunities and raising funds for scholarships. The university will conclude its week of events today with a pregame ceremony and coin toss where she will be recognized.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Abilene Police Department urged drivers to slow down and obey posted school zone speed limits to reduce accidents from distracted driving. Public Information Officer Rick Tomlin (speaking on September 26th) said that avoiding mobile phone use and watching for children crossing are key to keeping everyone safe.  KTXS
