Volunteers cleaned the historic West Texas power plant — a key Abilene landmark owned by the Preservation League—removing glass shards, trimming trees, and operating heavy equipment to ready the 18.3-acre site for future repurposing.
Preservation League Executive Director Abigail Payne said more cleanup events will follow once safety measures are set for planned interior work.

The McMurry War Hawks ended their losing streak by winning 31-24 over Howard Payne as redshirt freshman Dylan Plake filled in for starting quarterback Jess Hoel—his key passes helped build a lead and secure a home win after a two-game road trip.
McMurry is on a bye week while Howard Payne will next play at Hardin-Simmons.
