- ➤ Jersey Mike’s Subs opens today with a fundraiser that lets customers donate a minimum of $3 to support the Food Bank of West Central Texas in exchange for a regular sub. The fundraiser runs daily until Oct.12 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.—owner Charles Barkley said the event will help support Abilene's community. KTXS
- ➤ Today, the Abilene Police Department hosts National Night Out for residents to meet police, firefighters, and other law enforcement who work to keep Abilene safe. Families and kids will learn safety tips and see these service groups in a relaxed setting—strengthening community bonds. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Abilene ISD board member Blair Schroeder said that Senate Bill 13 created a process for parents and community members to review school books—he stressed the change is meant to guide local decisions and keep materials age appropriate. District leaders say the new protocol is a chance to have focused discussions rather than a broad ban. KTXS
- ➤ Abilene ISD held a school board meeting Monday where leaders reviewed an intruder detection audit that found two equipment failures. Dr. Joe Waldron said his team fixed the door issues immediately and will continue regular checks to keep schools safe—ensuring secure campuses. KTXS
