- ➤ Abilene will host the seventh annual Walk for Freedom event on Oct. 18 at Evermann Park to raise awareness about human trafficking—organizers say the silent walk will help the community recognize exploitation and honor survivors. Hosted by Beyond Trafficking, the event will invite locals to join in a focused effort against human trafficking. KTXS

- ➤ Three Casey's convenience stores will open in Abilene by 2027 — the store at 2824 East Overland Trail will start building Feb.15 with an April 1 finish, while projects at the NE corner of Buffalo Gap Rd at Beltway S and at 8471 South FM 707 will begin next month with completions set for the end of 2026 and before 2027. - ➤ Authorities investigated suspected arson after a fire destroyed Fort Imagination near the Abilene Zoo early Friday at about 12:30 a.m.—cleanup began as community members mourned the loss of the cherished playground built by local volunteers. FOX West Texas
