COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday afternoon, the Regional Victim Crisis Center marked 48 years of helping survivors of sexual and violent crimes with a community luncheon in Abilene that honored first responders. • Abilene Zoo will display a retired C-130 from Dyess AFB in its new A Bold Adventure exhibit as part of an eight-acre expansion planned in the next year and a half—this plane was once on display at Dyess and appeared in films like Operation Dumbo Drop. The aircraft will be placed next to the lion exhibit when the project is complete by summer—highlighting the strong link between the zoo and the air force base.  KTXS

  • Maxwell Golf Course closed when its lease expired at the end of September and local high school teams now must use simulators and other courses—Cooper High coach Mitch Aston said the change makes it hard for kids to practice fully.
