Good morning, Abilene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 21st of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A mural in Abilene that shows Charlie Kirk and victims of tragedy has sparked controversy after muralist Jennifer Lofton finished a three-week project for Dandy’s Auto Detail on South Treadway—she said she wanted to honor all losses. Lofton offered to move Kirk’s image following feedback, but some local residents still feel the mural disrespects those who were affected.  KTXS
  • The pool at Abilene State Park, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and last updated in the late 1970s, is undergoing major repairs with gutters fixed, cracks filled, and the kiddie pool resurfaced; construction is set to finish next month and the pool will reopen for swimmers next summer—restoring a historic community favorite.  KTXS
  • Play Faire Park has reopened in Abilene under new ownership with owner Charles Wolfe explaining that rumors of a permanent closure were unfounded—he said he is addressing long-standing issues to keep the park open as a cherished local landmark. Wolfe also noted that while the park’s name may change, its historic character will remain so visitors can continue enjoying it.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music singer Aaron Watson will perform at ACU on November 1—part of his Buy The World A Round Tour homecoming festivities, and he will return to the Paramount Theatre on December 19 and 20 for an Aaron Watson Family Christmas with his son Jake joining him at ACU.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Taylor County Coliseum has completed a $20 million renovation that added new restrooms, upgraded dressing rooms, revised ceiling tiles, improved lighting, a new sound system, and better handicap access— the update is designed to host larger events without competing with the downtown convention center while commissioners’ court oversaw the funding to ensure taxpayer money was used properly.  KTXS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • At Monday’s meeting, Clyde City Council reviewed plans for StarClyde, a project that will include a hotel, apartments and 70,000 square feet of retail on 38 acres with a natural lake along I-20.
