- ➤ A mural in Abilene that shows Charlie Kirk and victims of tragedy has sparked controversy after muralist Jennifer Lofton finished a three-week project for Dandy’s Auto Detail on South Treadway—she said she wanted to honor all losses. Lofton offered to move Kirk’s image following feedback, but some local residents still feel the mural disrespects those who were affected. KTXS
- ➤ The pool at Abilene State Park, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and last updated in the late 1970s, is undergoing major repairs with gutters fixed, cracks filled, and the kiddie pool resurfaced; construction is set to finish next month and the pool will reopen for swimmers next summer—restoring a historic community favorite. - ➤ Play Faire Park has reopened in Abilene under new ownership with owner Charles Wolfe explaining that rumors of a permanent closure were unfounded—he said he is addressing long-standing issues to keep the park open as a cherished local landmark. - ➤ Taylor County Coliseum has completed a $20 million renovation that added new restrooms, upgraded dressing rooms, revised ceiling tiles, improved lighting, a new sound system, and better handicap access— the update is designed to host larger events without competing with the downtown convention center while commissioners’ court oversaw the funding to ensure taxpayer money was used properly. - ➤ At Monday’s meeting, Clyde City Council reviewed plans for StarClyde, a project that will include a hotel, apartments and 70,000 square feet of retail on 38 acres with a natural lake along I-20.
