- ➤ Global Samaritan Resources of Abilene is increasing donations to help local non-profits prepare for families that will lose SNAP benefits on Saturday — the organization uses its 55,000-square-foot warehouse to load food pantries with supplies and recently shipped a 53-foot truckload of Nabisco products from Fort Worth valued at about $150,000 and bought for $1,000. - ➤ Residents in Taylor County have grown frustrated with heavy truck traffic affecting local roads as construction projects drive up the number of trucks and raise safety concerns. Sheriff Ricky Bishop said county officials are working with the Texas Department of Transportation + trucking companies to address the issue. KTXS

- ➤ Elliott-Hamil Funeral Homes & Garden of Memories Cemetery is hosting its 5th Annual Día de Los Muertos celebration today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 5701 US Hwy 277 S — the event will feature live music from Big Country Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico del Big Country and Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz along with food trucks and cultural craft activities for families. - ➤ McMurry University and Abilene Independent School District have partnered to give top high school seniors automatic college admission—students need a 3.5 GPA or to be in the top 35% of their class. The program starts this academic year and runs until August 2028, offering a scholarship plus early financial aid consideration. KTXS

- ➤ The Abilene Fire Department warned residents to safely use heaters as cold air flows in, advising them to plug heaters directly into the wall and keep them three feet away from flammable items.
