Good morning, Abilene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 4th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Concho Valley Regional Food Bank is asking local churches, businesses, and residents to donate non-perishable food or volunteer as SNAP disruptions from the federal shutdown drive a rising need for food assistance; the bank lists items such as peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, and canned meats — essential supplies for local food pantries.  KTXS
  • The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign returns to Abilene to raise $115,000 for local programs, with red kettles set up outside stores Monday to Saturday from early November until Christmas Eve. Community members are invited to ring bells by calling (325) 677-1408 (volunteers are needed) to support those in need.  KTXS

CRIME NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kicks for Kids offers scholarships so underprivileged children can train in martial arts at Team Chip—teaching confidence, discipline, and improved school performance. The nonprofit holds a fundraiser each February to support these programs.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

Demand is rising and capacity is stretched as these organizations work to help those in need.  KTXS
