Good morning, Abilene. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 18th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 26th Annual Mission Thanksgiving will be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at Arrow Ford in Abilene from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Donation drives will also take place at Love & Care Ministries in Merkel, Clyde, and Anson to collect food, clothing, and other essential items.  KTXS
  • The Salvation Army in Abilene is calling for last-minute donations of Thanksgiving side dishes— they have only about a third of what is needed and need items such as green beans, corn, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, and rolls. The nonprofit has secured turkeys and local partners to serve over 500 meals— donations can be dropped off at 1726 Butternut St. through the day before Thanksgiving.  KTXS
  • The Cypress Street project is nearing completion as workers installed sidewalks last week opposite Grace Museum and began digging utility trenches for the future Pedestrian Plaza — which will be finished with grass, a fountain, and shelter-like pavilions. The improvements are set to enhance local streets with safer and more attractive public spaces.  Abilene Reporter News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Abilene man Ace Herd stopped to help a flipped car on US 83 on Nov. 15 around 5:30 p.m. and while rescuing a trapped woman and child his parked motorcycle was hit by another driver + he said he has no regrets since saving lives matters more than his bike.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Abilene’s 15th Outlaws and Legends festival will take place on March 20 and 21 at the Back Porch with headliners ZZ Top and Cody Jinks along with many regional acts. The festival will feature new venue improvements — an upgraded parking lot, six VIP suites and a swim-up patio area sponsored by Four Ten Whiskey.  KTXS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Abilene seeks to renew its permit to discharge over a million gallons of effluent water into a low-circulation cove at Possum Kingdom Lake—this plan has raised environmental concerns among local leaders and state officials.
