COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local community groups and churches will offer Thanksgiving meals across Big Country for families facing financial challenges as the holiday approaches — meals will be served in Eastland at the Lumber Yard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Brownwood at Howard Payne University from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at several Taylor County sites on Nov. 27.  KTXS
  • Noah Project will soon open a pedestrian gate—funded by Rosendin Electric—that will give safe, accessible entry for victims and bus riders needing shelter access. The gate, with an intercom, cameras and a light, will begin construction after final quotes are verified and is expected to be complete early next year.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • La Villa in Abilene is featuring holiday items and cultural crafts at its shop, which has been in business for 10 years. Run by a married couple for three years, the store sells handmade Talavera pottery from Puebla and metal art from Indonesia—each piece crafted with traditional methods—and reflects a rich cultural heritage.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • TSTC in Sweetwater is preparing Thanksgiving meal kits to help students enjoy a traditional holiday. The program, which has grown over five years from five kits to 25 this year — with over 100 statewide, aims to bring holiday warmth to those in need.  KTXS
  • A Wylie ISD parent said her two children were unenrolled after a teacher flagged a mistaken residency claim and after she learned that surveillance recorded her family for 17 days, which she says caused her a panic attack. The children have been re-enrolled after state officials stepped in, and the mother claims her disabled daughter was targeted.  KTXS

  • It rained on Sunday night in Taylor County, but the burn ban stays because dead summer grasses dry out fast, fire chief Ricky Bishop said+residents must wait for winter grass to grow to boost moisture and slow wildfire spread.  KTXS
