COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Big Country Spectrum Connection is hosting its Fourth Annual Autism Walk on April 5 at Redbud Park beginning at 9 a.m.—the event celebrates Autism Awareness Month and offers a limited number of T-shirts for purchase while participants register online. KTXS
- ➤ Abilene’s Kiwanis Club will host the 75th Annual Pancake Day at the Convention Center on Saturday as pancakes are served without limit from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and again from 4 until 7, and live music, raffles — and a silent auction will raise money for local children's programs. KTXS
- ➤ Punk, one of the original giraffes at the Abilene Zoo, was euthanized Wednesday after a six‐month decline in mobility (age‐related issues reduced her quality of life). Born November 27th at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, she spent 25 years at the zoo and connected with many visitors. KTXS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Abilene Christian University added three new board of trustees members—Don Clevenger, Dr. Sandra Fortenberry, and Luke Hejl, all ACU graduates with experience on professional boards. They join about 30 trustees who set policy and guide the university’s long-term direction. KTXS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Abilene was named as one of the top ten windiest cities in America—Redfin said its flat terrain, unstable air and strong summer storms led to its ranking— which may affect local planning. KTXS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Abilene City Council approved a downtown paid parking program in Thursday's meeting—only the lot across from the downtown hotel will charge fees while street parking and other city-owned lots remain free with a two-hour limit. The council clarified past confusion so residents understand the new rules. Abilene Reporter News
