CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Abilene is preparing for Oktoberfest celebrations on October 4 with events planned across town. Grain Theory will host a block party on North 2nd St. from 5-10 p.m. with bands, games, food trucks and beer — Artoberfest will feature a sausage cook-off and local vendors while Doc's Bar and Grill kicks off Doctoberfest at 12 p.m. with a bounce house and food specials. - ➤ Local artist Calina Mishay painted a large mural in Haskell to share a message of hope and faith—she said the work invites people to connect and share their life stories, and she is now looking for her next location to expand the movement. KTXS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The 317th Airlift Wing hosted a memorial ceremony at Dyess Memorial Park on Oct.2 to honor the 10th anniversary of a C-130J crash that took the lives of four airmen during a mission in Afghanistan—despite a government shutdown, families and veterans gathered as a plaque was illuminated at 1:46 p.m., and Congressman Jodey Arrington introduced a resolution naming the crew and recognizing their sacrifice. - ➤ The 317th Airlift Wing held a memorial ceremony at Dyess Memorial Park to mark the 10th anniversary of the C-130J TORQE 62 crash that killed four airmen on Oct. 2 + the 7th Bomb Wing did not support planned media engagements due to a government shutdown. KTXS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Nurse Christi Green from Cooper High School launched Project Adam today—an initiative that builds a 10-member cardiac response team and deploys 10 AEDs around campus—to boost survival in cardiac emergencies. She said early defibrillation can raise survival rates by 50 to 60% and noted that the program joins affiliates in 35 states. KTXS
