COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday morning, Abilene residents gathered at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery to bury U.S. Army veteran PFC Ronald Kenneth Fogerty who died without any living family. Cemetery officials said the service honored his sacrifice — with U.S. Air Force veteran Stanley Koper attending to show support for his lifelong commitment.  KTXS

CULTURE NEWS

  • A mural on South Treadway intended as a memorial tribute for Uvalde victims has sparked controversy in Abilene after Brett Cross, a parent whose son was killed at Robb Elementary, said featuring Charlie Kirk with the children is disrespectful—he hopes the image can be altered. Muralist Jennifer Lofton said she meant to honor the victims and claimed she reached out to Cross to resolve the matter.  KTXS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Long Early Learning Center hosted its annual Community Helpers Day Wednesday where the Abilene Police Department, TXDOT, and the Abilene Fire Department showed students their tools and explained how they help keep the city safe—students received hands-on learning. The school also holds registration every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon for four-year-olds with the required documents.  KTXS
  • Abilene ISD AgVenture Day returns for fourth graders who will rotate through interactive stations to learn about farming and agriculture—teachers say the event builds on last year’s success.  KTXS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A local nonprofit called Beyond Trafficking is proposing a new law that would require a court-approved trauma expert to testify when survivors take the stand to help prevent re-traumatization. Local judges and district attorneys have expressed support for the measure, which is expected to be approved within the next year—providing added protection for courtroom survivors.  KTXS
