  • Peggy Dodson, who honors her late daughter with an annual tradition of giving teddy bears to children in need, found that two Care Bears delivered to her porch recently were missing—she hopes they went to a child who needed them and invites extra bears to be dropped off at Pierce Furniture Gallery at 1383 S Danville Dr.  KTXS
  • Meals on Wheels partnered with United Supermarkets in Abilene to launch the Easy as Pie campaign, where a $5 donation at checkout at United or Market Street earns a free pie from November 12 to November 26—yesterday a pie eating contest was held at 10 a.m. to kick off the event and highlight its community impact during the holidays.  KTXS
  • On Wednesday afternoon, the Community Foundation of Abilene celebrated 40 years at the Abilene Convention Center with local leaders in attendance—marking its milestone with $220 million in assets and $28 million in grants awarded over the past year. Historian Jay Moore explained the foundation’s history while CEO Katie Alford and Talan Cobb noted its support for local nonprofits.  KTXS

  • Rebecca Lane construction is complete and local businesses are enjoying smoother commutes — Life of Pie owner Cory Bivens and a nearby barber reported a return of customer traffic after months of bumpy rides since work began in May.  KTXS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Abilene Community Health Center with an open house on November 17 starting at 11 a.m.—guests will tour the facility and enjoy refreshments while learning about its care for underserved communities. The center, which opened in August 2015, has expanded its services to include primary and behavioral health care.  KTXS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Abilene High Eagles ended an 8—2 season by winning District 5—A—1 with a perfect 6—0 sweep in district play and will host the El Paso Bel Air Highlanders, who had a 0—6 record, in the Bi-District round of playoffs. Coach Fullen said every play matters as his team prepares for an attrition game.  KACU
